Who else loves the Sea Turtle?

The gentle sea turtle.  I can’t imagine who doesn’t love them.  They have captured our hearts and on Florida’s Gulf Coast, and other beaches,  it is a thrill to see their nests carefully protected.

In Bay County, Florida, where I like to vacation, there is 44 miles of nesting beaches.  In 2015, there were 170 loggerhead turtle nests aling those beaches.  There were also 12 green turtle nests and 5 leatherback turtle nests.  Florida has the highest number of sea turtles of any state in the country, and I just love to see the roped off nests in the summer.  Everyone respects the space and many volunteers take care of them.  There are sea turtle hatch parties that go on into the night when it looks like they are ready to make their journey from sand to sea.  Nests can contain from 20 to 120 eggs so that’s a lot of cuteness on the beach when they hatch.

I have a wonderful friend whose nickname is “Turtle”.  He and his wife loved the beach as much as anyone I have ever known. He also loved all of God’s creatures.  His love of life inspired me to paint this sea turtle.  I hope you will find a place to put this print that will make you smile every day.
